Stopover in Rome? the best tour in one day Airport A/R
From the Fiumicino airport you can catch the train "Leonardo Express" to Termini railway station. (it takes about 30 min.- 14€) Once you get there you can catch the Metro - Linea B - direction Laurentina - and get off at COLOSSEO (2 stops from Termini) There you can visit Colosseo and walk along "FORI IMPERIALI".At the end of the street you reach "PIAZZA VENEZIA", where there is the "ALTARE DELLA PATRIA", the altar buit by Mussolini during the Second World War.
You can continue along "VIA DEL CORSO" at the end of this street there is "PIAZZA DEL POPOLO".
Along "VIA DEL CORSO" you could see all the best monuments of Rome:
On the left side there is the PANTHEON and "PIAZZA NAVONA"
On the opposide side "FONTANA DI TREVI"
Going ahead on the left side there is the "COLONNA DI TRAIANO" and behind the Parlament "PALAZZO MONTECITORIO"
In the middle of the street on the right side you can walk along "VIA CONDOTTI" till you reach "PIAZZA DI SPAGNA" & "TRINITA' DEI MONTI
Restaurants in these area: trattoria da coso,trattoria ad hoc (Via del corso),Ginger, Edy (classical - near piazza di Spagna), Giulio passami l'olio (Piazza Navona) and after try the coffee in the "TAZZA D'ORO", Gusto or Re Cafe (brunch - apetizers)
Maybe at this point you will be tired...you can catch the metro from piazza di Spagna "SPAGNA" and go to "FLAMINIO" (this is the name of the stop in Piazza del Popolo) or you can walk along ViA DEL BABUINO and finding at the end "PIAZZA DEL POPOLO".
From "FLAMINIO" or "SPAGNA" you can take the Metro - linea A - direction BATTISTINI - and get off at the stop " OTTAVIANO" to visit the Church of St Peter
To go back to the Fiumicino airport the best way is Metro - linea A direction Anagnina - from Ottaviano to Termini And Leonardo Express from Termini to Fiumicino.
You can also take a taxi but there is too many traffic to go out from the center of the city. It will cost you about 50€
